Student Council Executive Committee

 

TERMS OF REFERENCE

MDIS Student Council Executive Committee is an extracurricular activity for nominated student leaders within MDIS. The Student Council Executive Committee serves to engage students in learning about democracy and leadership. The Student Council EXCO will sit for a tenure of two years, from 01 April 2021. All nominated students who are willing to run for office will be required to submit an application form, updated resume and a recommendation letter. Once elected, all officers will be required to attend regular meetings, assisted by an appointed Student Council Advisor. It is imperative that our student body takes an active, and visible role in the MDIS family. The Student Council Executive Committee should be an institution of respect and authority to effect changes in the most positive, and needed way possible. The positions within the Student Council Executive Committee are listed below:

 

PRESIDENT

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Preside over and conduct regularly scheduled and any additional meetings that may be required to be effective in student body leadership;
  • Give guidance, support and leadership to school activities that are approved by CMR;
  • Plan, support, implement and delegate responsibilities within the framework of student activities supported by CMR;
  • Exhibit exemplary behavior and leadership.

 

VICE-PRESIDENT (EVENTS & COMMNICATIONS)

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Attend all Student Council Executive Committee meetings;
  • Generate enthusiasm for all planned events and marketing efforts on campus and promote campus spirit throughout the year;
  • Work closely with the President to be fully aware of his/her role and responsibilities in the event of his/her absence and/or to assume the role per his/her direction.  The President may assign the Vice-President to preside at meetings;
  • Exhibit exemplary behavior and leadership.
     

TREASURER
Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Attend all Student Council Executive Committee meetings;
  • Generate enthusiasm for all planned events on campus and promote campus spirit throughout the year;
  • Assist the Student Council Executive Committee in the conduct of its business;
  • Responsible for reporting on a monthly basis the income and expenditures of student body monies;
  • Exhibit exemplary behavior and leadership.
     

SECRETARY

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Attend all Student Council Executive Committee meetings;
  • Keep accurate records of meeting minutes in each meeting;
  • Keep an accurate accounting of motions brought to the floor, the seconding of motions, discussion;
  • Generate enthusiasm for all planned events on campus and promote campus spirit throughout the year;
  • Exhibit exemplary behavior and leadership.
     

SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Attend all Student Council Executive Committee meetings;
  • Create, collaborate and market content on their social channels on behalf of MDIS;
  • Generate enthusiasm for all planned events on campus and promote campus spirit throughout the year;
  • Exhibit exemplary behavior and leadership.
     

ELECTION PROCEDURES 2021

MDIS Student Council Executive Committee elections will take place in February and conclude by 31 March 2021. Information on how to nominate a candidate and the election procedures are as follows:

 

Nomination Week (01 February to 15 February)

  • All HOS are to nominate 02 students for any of the Student Council Executive Committee leadership positions;
  • Self-nomination and nomination by student population are permissible.
     

Interview Week (15 February to 26 February)

  • To ensure continuity in the management of MDIS Student Council Executive Committee only students with good standing will be considered for the leadership positions;
  • Right after the closing of the nomination period, CMR will evaluate the nominations received;
  • Candidates nominated for the first time for one of the leadership positions should have been active volunteers in any of the campus committees, or have served as similar capacity in the past.
     

Election Week (01 March to 22 March)

  • Election takes place via voting through email;
  • All students can vote for the nominated candidates and each student has one vote per position;

The election results will be announced by 26 March, via email notification.
