The Preparatory Course for Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education or GCE A level and O level (Advanced and Ordinary Level) equips students of 14 years and above with a qualification that will enable them to successfully progress towards acquiring higher education and vocational courses. Students who are citizens of Singapore, as well as foreign students, may get this certificate to apply for higher studies in Singapore. Students who wish to enrol in Universities in Singapore have to complete the GCE A Level. This certification will ensure that they have the required subject knowledge and skills to handle the university programmes. Once they have completed the preparatory course, students can sit for the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) examination which is conducted jointly by the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), the Ministry of Education, Singapore, and the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB). The examination includes both oral and written test formats. The oral examination is conducted in July/August while the written and practical examination is held in October/November. This certification is equivalent to the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) examination taken by students in the United Kingdom. Once students acquire both their A and O level certificates and Cambridge English Preparatory certificates, students are better equipped to take on the professional degree education in Singapore colleges and universities.
