MDIS Preparatory Courses 

MDIS College offers a diverse range of preparatory courses ranging from Singapore- Cambridge General Certificate of Education (Ordinary and Advanced Level), Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS), Cambridge International Advanced Level, Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Cambridge International Lower Secondary. Since its establishment in 2006, it has set a proven track record of preparing students to excel academically and has provided a strong foundation for them to be successful at higher levels of tertiary education in Singapore.  

MDIS aims to inspire students to reach their full potential and takes pride in enhancing their learning experience. It places a strong focus on pastoral care and works closely with all stakeholders to improve the academic performance and overall well-being of its students. Its pastoral care programme for the College's students, also known as the RIPE (Remedial, Inter-disciplinary, Pastoral Care, Enrichment) programme, functions to support students in their learning experience. In addition, supervised Self-Study sessions are planned to allow students to consolidate their learning in a structured manner.

MDIS achieved its milestone of becoming a Cambridge International School in 2018, offering new preparatory courses for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Cambridge International Advanced Level. By attaining Cambridge qualifications that are internationally well-recognised, our students have the opportunity to pursue their further studies in universities and colleges in any part of the world.

MDIS has positioned itself as an institution that enables students to do well for the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education at Ordinary and Advanced Level (GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level) and Admissions exercise for International Students (AEIS) Examinations. Recognising the uniqueness of each individual student, preparatory courses for Cambridge International Advanced Level, Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Cambridge International Lower Secondary were also incorporated into its list of preparatory courses to cater to the diverse needs of the students.

Octavious Khoo

Head of School
MDIS College

Mr Octavious Khoo joined MDIS College in the year 2010 as an Associate Teacher, with focus on teaching English, Humanities and Business subjects for the GCE ‘A’ Level, GCE ‘O’ level and Cambridge IGCSE preparatory courses.  With more than 13 years’ worth of teaching, lecturing and tutoring experience at various Private Education Institutions and Tutoring centers, he has accumulated an array of knowledge and experience in the education sector.

Mr Octavious graduated from the Hawaii Pacific University, USA with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (First Class Honors). He also holds the ACTA qualification for adult training and recently he has been awarded both the Teaching and Learning Certificate from Ngee Ann Polytechnic and the Google Certificated Educator, Level 1 certification.

Mr Octavious is a passionate and dedicated educator who firmly believes in the value of lifelong learning and whenever time permits, he will attend courses to constantly enrich and update himself to stay relevant in the education sector.

Cliven Aw

Programme Manager
MDIS College

Mr Cliven Aw graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU). During his undergraduate study, he was among the three to be selected from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, to be attached to Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (one of the national scientific research laboratories in United Kingdom) where he received commendation for a research project which he undertook. He obtained his Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) specialising in Physical Education and Mathematics from National Institute of Education (NIE). He has also obtained his certification from NIE in Pedagogy for Business Skills in 2009 and Education for Students with Special Needs in 2014.

Mr Cliven was a former trainer with NTUC Learning Centre providing corporate training to employees from various companies. Among these are well-known companies like Singapore Airlines (SIA) and employees holding managerial positions.

With more than 10 years of experience with the Ministry of Education (MOE), Mr Cliven has taught Physical Education, Mathematics and Business Skills in various secondary schools and reputable schools like Saint Joseph’s Institution (Independent). During his stint at MOE, he was a member of Student Leadership Committee, Examination Committee, Innovation and Enterprise Committee and National Education Committee. In 2009, he received the Outstanding Contribution Award from the school and MOE for his valuable contribution. Mr Cliven believes that every individual is talented and a fervent educator will bring out the best in them.

Ang Tiong Bein

Mr Ang Tiong Bein is a passionate and dedicated educator with more than 25 years of teaching experiences, specialising in Chinese Language and Literature, Business Chinese and Communicative Chinese.

Mr Ang has been with MDIS for more than 5 years, having conducted courses for both students from Singapore and from other nations. He holds a Master degree from National University of Singapore. He also holds the ACTA qualification for adult training.

 

Andrew Chen

Mr Andrew Chen joined MDIS in 2014 as a part time teacher with a focus on teaching Science for the GCE O level and Cambridge IGCSE preparatory courses. He has been teaching in both private education institutions and giving private tuition since 2012. 

Mr Andrew holds a degree in Science from the University of South Australia. He believes in and applies a lot of education technology in his lessons, making science come alive in the classroom.  His fun and engaging lessons hope to spark the fun of learning and inspire students to achieve greater heights.  

Angelina Eswari

Ms Angelina Eswari is currently embarking on her Masters of Science (Mathematics for Educators) at NTU. She has been in the education field for almost 7 years. Over the years, she has had extensive experience tutoring students from various backgrounds in schools under MOE and private schools.

Anil Singh Sona

Associate Teacher

Mr Anil Singh Sona is currently an Associate Lecturer/Teacher and Academic Coach at various government and private institutions and a certified Trainer with Approved Training Organisations (ATOs). A highly versatile and empathic educator, he specialises in General Paper (GP) at the ‘A’ Level, Global Issues/Perspectives, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology and Security Studies. Since 2011, he has also supervised over 200 students for their academic dissertations.

Anil holds a Master of Social Sciences (in Sociology) from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and a Graduate Certificate in Professional Counselling (Swinburne University). He is currently embarking on Master of Adult Learning to keep himself updated and relevant in the field of adult learning.

Anil firmly believes that success in a changing world will demand more than technical skills. Instead, it will call for adaptability, empathy and a deeper sense of meaning. A passion for educating is fundamental but a passion for educating with empathy makes the difference. 

Ang Kim Hong

Mdm Ang earned her Second Upper Honors in Physics from NUS and obtained Merit in Diploma in education from NUS.

She has a wealth of experience in the education sector, having taught in Victoria Junior College for 12 years, 2 years in MJC and many years in Dimensions International College and MDIS.

Benny Boey

Benny has a Masters in Science (Life Science) degree from Nanyang Technological University. He has been teaching Chemistry and Biology for more than 10 years in secondary schools, junior colleges and international colleges. Having taught students with varying learning abilities, he is able to adapt his teaching style accordingly to meet the learning needs of the students.

Ching Meng Hui

Academic Excellence for Students Through Expert Guidance and Students’ Diligence

Mr Ching graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) with Credit (Mathematics), Master of Technology (Knowledge Engineering), Master of Science (Computational Mathematics) and Bachelor of Science (Honours) with Merit (Mathematics and Computational Science).

He has taught 3 years of Mathematics in MOE Secondary Schools, 10 years at National University of Singapore (NUS), 5 years at Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) and 30 years of tutoring Mathematics.

He was trained at National Institute of Education (NIE), differentiated instruction for Diverse Learners by National Institute of Education (NIE) and National University of Singapore (NUS).

He specialises in Mathematics - H1/H2/H3 Mathematics for ‘A’ Levels, H2 Further Mathematics for ‘A’ Levels, Additional Mathematics for ‘O’ Levels and Mathematics for ‘O’ Levels. Unique teaching methods and techniques would be in providing notes and materials, drill and practice, logical reasoning and doing Past Year Papers.

 

Cindy Chambers

Mrs Cindy Chambers is an MOE-trained English teacher with more than 15 years of teaching experience. An advocate of lifelong learning, she has also obtained a Masters of Education (English Language) from NTU. With her strong and unwavering passion for teaching, the English language and her students, she desires to make English come alive for her students in and out of the classroom.

Choy Kin Sung

Mr Choy Kin Sung graduated from NUS with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Economics. He went on to pursue a post-graduate education with NTU-RSIS and obtained a Master of Science in International Political Economy. He has a strong passion for the Economics subject with a teaching experience of more than 15 years. While he specialises in teaching Economics at the GCE A-level, he is also exposed and familiar with different curriculums such as the UK A-level, IGCSE, IB and AP Economics. He has previously taught Economics in a MOE junior college before deciding to gather some industry experience and moved on to join A&G LLP as a Competition Analyst. Outside of teaching, he has always enjoyed debating and has progressed from a debater in college to become a debate trainer and a certified adjudicator.

Daniel Ling

Mr Daniel Ling has more than 17 years of teaching experience, with the main focus on preparing students for the GCE 'O' and 'A' levels examinations. As a former MOE Teaching Award scholar, Mr Ling taught Physics and Mathematics at a MOE-SAP school for several years before joining MDIS College as an associate teacher. Mr Ling holds a bachelor degree in Engineering with a Second Class Upper Honors from NUS, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education (NIE), a Master of Education from Aspen University, United States as well as an MBA from the Australian Institute of Business. A firm believer in life-long learning, Daniel is currently pursuing a PhD in Education.

Kellie Tan

Kellie is a NIE trained Economics teacher, with more than 10 years of experience teaching in top junior colleges. Thus, she is well versed in the syllabus and has a passion for the subject.  She is adept at teaching concepts, examination skills and application to current, real world situations.

Kelvin Cheo

Mr Kelvin Cheo has a PhD of Mechanical Engineering from NUS. He has been teaching at MDIS for 3 years and lecturing in other institutes of higher learning in the past, focusing on science and engineering topics. He enjoys helping students understand how what is being taught in schools relate to real-life applications.

Nadiah

Ms Nadiah graduated from (NTU-NIE) with Masters in Education, English Language and also acquired CELTA from British Council. Nadiah specialises in teaching English Language for IGCSE, O Level, AEIS, A Level (General Paper), and IELTS. She is a highly motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated educator who strives to ensure all students become successful learners.

Dr Pallavi

Dr. Pallavi is a qualified Healthcare Practitioner in private practice for the last 24 years holding a Bachelor's Degree of B.H.M.S (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicines and Surgery) along with a Fellowship from The British Council of Homeopathy, U.K. A committed and experienced lecturer with over 16 years of experience in teaching life sciences in MDIS and over 4 years of teaching H2 Biology in MDIS college. Professional experience in teaching BSc Honours degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, and Pharmaceutical Management.

Prabhu

Having received the MOE Long Service Award (10 years) and taught more than 2000 students, Mr Prabhu added value to his experience as an educator with the knowledge he gained from his Degree of Masters of Arts in Humanities Education. His experience shaped him to be a more efficient educator to augment the learning capabilities of his students.

Rampur

Rampur graduated with a Master of Science at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He is fully committed and dedicated to teaching. He has the ability to explain concepts and solution steps very clearly, encourages and motivates students to practise solving more exercises to develop confidence, enjoy learning and strive for excellent results. He is also patient and friendly. He is experienced in online teaching (conducts live, interactive sessions).

Susan Pok Sor Suan

Dr Shalini

Dr Shalini Ratnasingam is a highly motivated and versatile lecturer with research experience and good student engagement skills. She graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical science. She then went on to do her Honours degree in the University of New South Wales (Sydney) in Microbiology. Upon graduation she returned to Singapore to pursue her PhD in Microbiology at Nanyang Technological University. She did a research fellowship at the Advanced Environmental Biotechnology centre after which she started lecturing at MDIS.

Tan Teck Khiang

Mr Tan worked in Finance, Accounting and HR for more than 20 years before he started teaching. Whenever possible, he will incorporate his work experiences and real life examples into his lessons to make them more interesting and relevant. After all, accounting is a practical and logical subject that can be applied in our daily lives.

Valerie Tan

Ms Valerie Tan graduated with a Bachelor in Biological Sciences (Hons) from Nanyang Technological University and had 10 years of teaching experience in various private enrichment centres. In her many years of teaching, she has helped many students earn their distinction in Sciences using her unique study techniques. A quote she always tells her students and is also her teaching philosophy, “If you only do what you can do, you will never be better than who you are”, by Kungfu panda. As a teacher she will inculcate the idea of achieving their goals by doing things outside of their comfort zone to help them achieve life successes.

Michelle Yeo

Ms Michelle Yeo graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) with Credit (Geography) from the National institute of Education and a Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences (Hons) majoring in Geography and Chinese Studies from the National University of Singapore (NUS). She is a committed and experienced teacher with more than 15 years of proven track record in teaching and delivering GCE ‘O’ Levels Geography and has achieved at least 20% higher than average national results for GCE ‘O’ Levels. During her stint at MOE, she played a pivotal role in the school’s Entrepreneurship Programme, and Character and Sexuality Education. In 2007 and 2008, she received the Outstanding Contribution Awards (Humanities and Character Education) from the school for her valuable contribution. As a certified Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) (American Board of NLP) practitioner, she is attentive, adaptable and skilled in using empathy and other emotional intelligence skills to effectively manage students’ learning.

Pushpalata D/O Narayanan

Ms Lata is currently an Associate Lecturer/Teacher at MDIS College and the School of Languages and Education (SLE). Ms Lata has been teaching English for almost 19 years now. She has exhibited her versatility in teaching various groups of students. She began her teaching career in in the mainstream schools as a trained MOE teacher- teaching General Paper (GP) and project work at ‘A’ Levels. Ms Lata has taught English as a second language to foreign students since 2008. Besides, she has also taught modules on critical thinking & writing and report writing to undergraduate students at NUS.

Ms Lata holds a Master of Education in English Language from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and a Postgraduate Diploma from the National Institute of Education (NIE). She also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Communication Studies and English from the University of Wollongong, Australia.

Ms Lata believes that every student should be given an opportunity to excel. Educators, as such, should always motivate and encourage students. She realises the importance of catering to different student needs. Hence, a classroom should always be ‘inviting’ and never daunting.

Yasmin Abdeen

Ms Yasmin Abdeen is passionate educator with close to thirty years of experience. A trained teacher, she started her career teaching English and Literature at Secondary Schools in Singapore. Yasmin has a Master of Education (Leadership) from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia and teaches at various public and private institutions of higher learning.

Specialising in English Language, Writing and Communication courses, Yasmin is also trained in teaching with technology and online pedagogies. Well-versed in a variety of teaching and learning strategies, she is a certified trainer for professional learning, and has worked with students with different learning needs. Since 2008, Yasmin has supervised hundreds of students for their academic dissertations. Committed to academic excellence, she supports and scaffolds students’ learning with empathy and finesse.

With a strong desire to help students achieve their potential, Yasmin delivers engaging lessons confidently and facilitates thought-provoking discussions to help them connect their learning with real-world applications.

Mei Yin Tan

Ms Tan graduated with a Master of Business Administration from Anglia Ruskin University (UK) and she is currently an associate teacher. After years of working in the corporate sector, she left her managerial position as a senior financial analyst to pursue her passion in teaching. She is a qualified certified public accountant and professional analyst with 20 years of corporate finance experience in various multinationals.

She has more than 20 years of teaching experience, specialising in Accounting and Business-related subjects, and vast experience in teaching GCE ’O’ levels, GCE ‘A’ levels as well as tertiary and university students in numerous private institutions. In addition, she has delivered talks and lectures at various overseas universities for exchange programmes, seminars as well as provided coaching services.

She strongly believes that learning is a never-ending journey and has obtained her Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) certification to be a qualified trainer with an aim to train and to design new curriculum. She is always willing to share her experiences and impart knowledge to students in creative and interesting ways.

Cornelius Chew

Mr Cornelius Chew graduated with a BSc in Physics and Applied Physics from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He has also obtained both his Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and the Public Service Commission (PSC) Scholarship (Teaching Service) with merit from the National Institute of Education (NIE). With many years of teaching experience in various Junior Colleges and International schools, Mr Cornelius is well-versed in teaching Physics subjects for the GCE ‘A’ Level, GCE ‘O’ level and IGCSE courses. After leaving the Ministry of Education (MOE), he went on to obtain his Postgraduate Certificate in Quantitative Methods from the Heriot Watts University, UK. He is the co-author of the GCE ‘A’ Levels Physics guidebook: H2 Physics Summary Notes and he is also the developer of the Data Logger Experiments which is widely used in Secondary schools and Junior Colleges in Singapore. Prior to joining MDIS as an Associate Lecturer, he worked as the Curriculum Developer for Mindstretcher, Singapore.
