MDIS Preparatory Courses 

MDIS College offers a diverse range of preparatory courses ranging from Singapore- Cambridge General Certificate of Education (Ordinary and Advanced Level), Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS),  Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Cambridge International Lower Secondary. Since its establishment in 2006, it has set a proven track record of preparing students to excel academically and has provided a strong foundation for them to be successful at higher levels of tertiary education in Singapore.  

MDIS aims to inspire students to reach their full potential and takes pride in enhancing their learning experience. It places a strong focus on pastoral care and works closely with all stakeholders to improve the academic performance and overall well-being of its students. Its pastoral care programme for the College's students, also known as the RIPE (Remedial, Inter-disciplinary, Pastoral Care, Enrichment) programme, functions to support students in their learning experience. In addition, supervised Self-Study sessions are planned to allow students to consolidate their learning in a structured manner.

Our team of highly qualified teachers and dedicated administrative staff ensures that students are educated in a caring, conducive and engaging learning environment. MDIS achieved its milestone of becoming a Cambridge International School in 2018, offering new preparatory courses for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Cambridge International Advanced Level. By attaining Cambridge qualifications that are internationally well-recognised, our students have the opportunity to pursue their further studies in universities and colleges in any part of the world.

MDIS has positioned itself as an institution that enables students to do well for the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education at Ordinary and Advanced Level (GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level) and Admissions exercise for International Students (AEIS) Examinations. Recognising the uniqueness of each individual student, preparatory courses for Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Cambridge International Lower Secondary were also incorporated into its list of preparatory courses to cater to the diverse needs of the students.

Mr Cliven Aw, Programme Manager

Cliven Aw

Mr Cliven Aw graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU). During his undergraduate study, he was among the three to be selected from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, to be attached to Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (one of the national scientific research laboratories in United Kingdom) where he received commendation for a research project which he undertook. He obtained his Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) specialising in Physical Education and Mathematics from National Institute of Education (NIE). He has also obtained his certification from NIE in Pedagogy for Business Skills in 2009 and Education for Students with Special Needs in 2014.

Mr Cliven was a former trainer with NTUC Learning Centre providing corporate training to employees from various companies. Among these are well-known companies like Singapore Airlines (SIA) and employees holding managerial positions.

With more than 10 years of experience with the Ministry of Education (MOE), Mr Cliven has taught Physical Education, Mathematics and Business Skills in various secondary schools and reputable schools like Saint Joseph’s Institution (Independent). During his stint at MOE, he was a member of Student Leadership Committee, Examination Committee, Innovation and Enterprise Committee and National Education Committee. In 2009, he received the Outstanding Contribution Award from the school and MOE for his valuable contribution. Mr Cliven believes that every individual is talented and a fervent educator will bring out the best in them.

Andrew Chen

Mr Andrew holds a degree in Science from the University of South Australia and he joined MDIS in 2014 as a part-time teacher with a focus on teaching Math, Chemistry, Physics and Biology for the GCE O level and Cambridge IGCSE preparatory courses. He has been teaching in both private education institutions and giving private tuition since 2012.

Mr Andrew believes in and applies a lot of educational technology in his lessons, making science and math come alive in the classroom. With more than 10 years of experience teaching, his fun and engaging lessons help to spark a love for learning and inspire students to achieve greater heights.

Anil Singh Sona

Associate Teacher

Mr Anil Singh Sona is currently an Associate Lecturer/Teacher, Academic Coach and Trainer at various government and private institutions and a certified Trainer with Approved Training Organisations (ATOs). He has more than 10 years of experience lecturing, teaching, and training. A highly versatile educator, he specialises in General Paper (GP) at the ‘A’ Level, Global Issues/Perspectives, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, and Public Safety & Security. Anil holds a Master of Social Sciences (in Sociology) from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and a Graduate Certificate in Professional Counselling (Swinburne University). He is currently embarking on a Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Assessing Adult Learners to keep himself updated and relevant in the field of adult learning.

Anil firmly believes that success in a changing world will demand more than technical skills. Instead, it will call for adaptability, empathy and a deeper sense of meaning. A passion for educating is fundamental but a passion for educating with empathy makes the difference. Above all, a good teacher must necessarily be a good student.

Ang Kim Hong

Mdm Ang earned her Second Upper Honors in Physics from NUS and obtained Merit in Diploma in education from NUS. She has a wealth of experience in MOE, having taught in top junior colleges and MDIS for many years.

A firm believer in imparting interest in Physics, she strives to make her lessons interesting and provide hands-on experience for the students. She could simplify difficult and abstract concepts to the delight of her students.

Benny Boey

Mr Benny graduated with a Masters in Science (Life Science) degree from Nanyang Technological University, Postgraduate diploma in Education with Credit and a Bachelor degree in Science (Life Science with concentration in Biomedical Science).

He specialises in teaching Chemistry and Biology and has 15 years of teaching experience. He has taught in MOE government secondary schools and junior colleges for more than 5 years and in international colleges for many years. Having taught students with varying learning abilities, he is able to adapt his teaching style accordingly to meet the learning needs of the students.

Cindy Chambers

Mrs Cindy Chambers is an MOE-trained English teacher with more than 28 years of teaching experience. An advocate of lifelong learning, she has also obtained a Masters of Education (English Language) and a Bachelor of Arts with Diploma in Education (National Institute of Education) from Nanyang Technological University.

She began her teaching career in an MOE Secondary school and has taught in Private Education Institutes, polytechnics and tuition centres over the years, specialising in O/A Level English and tertiary level English courses. With her strong and unwavering passion for teaching, the English language and her students, she desires to make English come alive for her students in and out of the classroom.

Choy Kin Sung

Mr Choy Kin Sung graduated from NUS with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Economics. He went on to pursue a post-graduate education with NTU-RSIS and obtained a Master of Science in International Political Economy. He has a strong passion for the Economics subject with a teaching experience of more than 15 years. While he specialises in teaching Economics at the GCE A-level, he is also exposed and familiar with different curriculums such as the UK A-level, IGCSE, IB and AP Economics. He has previously taught Economics in a MOE junior college before deciding to gather some industry experience and moved on to join A&G LLP as a Competition Analyst.

Outside of teaching, he has always enjoyed debating and has progressed from a debater in college to become a debate trainer and a certified adjudicator.

Daniel Ling

Dr Daniel Ling has more than 20 years of teaching experience, with the focus on preparing students for the IGCSE, GCE 'O' and 'A' levels examinations. As a former MOE Teaching Award scholar, Dr Ling taught Physics and Mathematics at a MOE-SAP school for several years before joining MDIS College as an associate teacher. Dr Ling holds a bachelor degree in Engineering with a Second Class Upper Honors from NUS, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education (NIE), a Master of Education from Aspen University, United States, an MBA from the Australian Institute of Business as well as a PhD in Education from Asia e University.

His areas of expertise are GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ level Mathematics and Physics as well as IGCSE Mathematics and he is very passionate in imparting his knowledge to his students.

Mohd Kefli

Mr Kefli graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and has undergone formal teacher training at the National Institute of Education (NIE), specializing in Secondary School Education. Among the subjects he is trained to teach are Geography and Social Studies.

Mr Kefli has extensive experience teaching students of different learning abilities in local schools, including students in the Normal/Technical (NT), Normal/Academic (NA) and Express streams. Starting out in Government schools, he has also taught in Independent schools before moving on to Private Education Institutions. Altogether, Mr Kefli has accumulated more than 25 years of teaching experience.

Kellie Tan

Upon graduation from NUS, Kellie obtained her postgraduate diploma in education from NIE and embarked on her teaching career. Her time with the Ministry of Education spanned more than a decade in top junior colleges. As such, she is very well versed in requirements of the A level Economics syllabus and is adept at teaching concepts, and imparting important examination skills.

Beyond helping her students to ace the examinations, she also seeks to nurture in them a lifelong interest in the subject and the ability to apply of theoretical knowledge to current, real world situations. As such, she always gives real life examples in her teaching of Economics and encourages her students to gain knowledge of current situations, in the hope that her students learn beyond the confines of the classroom. She is also a patient and devoted teacher, who always takes the time to answer every student's questions and aids them tirelessly in their pursuit of knowledge.

Dr Kelvin Cheo

Dr Kelvin has a PhD of Mechanical Engineering from NUS. He has been teaching at MDIS for many years and lecturing in other institutions of higher learning, focusing mainly in science and engineering related modules. He teaches Physics and Mathematics in both College and the various diploma courses at MDIS.

With Dr Kelvin’s experience in the technology and engineering sector, coupled with his enthusiasm in teaching, he enjoys helping students understand the context of his lessons by relating to real-life applications.

Nadiah

Associate Teacher

Ms Nadiah graduated from NTU (NIE) with a Master Degree in Education, English Language and acquired CELTA from British Council. Prior to that, she attained her Bachelor Degree in Science, Management from University of London. She has been teaching local and international students in a few educational institutions which leads to her gaining valuable experience. She adapts her teaching methodologies according to her students’ needs and believes that lessons should be beneficial inside and even outside the classroom where positive impacts could be made long after the class ends.

Ms Nadiah specialises in teaching English Language for IGCSE, O Level, AEIS, A Level (General Paper), and IELTS. She is a highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed educator who strives to ensure all students become successful learners who are able to contribute back to the society.

Dr Pallavi

Dr. Pallavi is a qualified Healthcare Practitioner holding a Master’s Degree in Food & Nutrition and a Bachelor's Degree of B.H.M.S (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicines and Surgery). She is a Nutritional and Homoeopathic consultant in private healthcare practice for the past 25 years. She has a Fellowship of the British Council of Homoeopathy and Membership of The Faculty of Homoeopathy, Malaysia.

She is a dedicated and passionate lecturer with over 20 years of teaching experience in Life Sciences and over 5 years of teaching A Level H2 Biology, IGCSE Combined Sciences and O Level Science Biology. Her areas of expertise include Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Management along with Final Year research projects. She has experience in teaching PBL and linking her profound clinical experiences/case studies to bring life into her classroom.

Prabhu

Mr Prabhu joined MDIS in 2020 and specialises in teaching English Language, History and Social Studies. Having taught these subjects for more than 10 years in two secondary schools, Mr Prabhu has a wide array of experience in educating students of various capabilities and enabling them to achieve commendable results in national examinations. Receiving the MOE Long Service Award (10 years), he is well equipped with the necessary teaching competencies.

His Degree of Masters of Arts in Humanities Education from NTU enhanced his mastery of relevant skills and knowledge. Possessing the ability to explain the concepts in a clear manner, he is able to augment the learning aptitudes of his students. By developing an inquisitive mind in students, he is also able to engage them and add value to their acquisition of knowledge more effectively.

Pok Sor Suan (Susan)

Susan graduated with a Commerce degree from Murdoch University and has taught in various government schools in Singapore. Having more than 20 years of teaching experience, specialising in Mathematics and Principles of Accounting subjects, she is very well versed in handling different classroom situations and accommodating to the various students’ learning needs.

Susan prides herself as an advocate of continuous learning and has attended various short teaching courses, and programmes upgrade herself and keeping herself relevant. She attains a great sense of achievement from seeing her students develop, grow and eventually become successful in their lives.

Dr Shalini

Associate Teacher

Dr Shalini Ratnasingam is a highly motivated and versatile lecturer with research experience and good student engagement skills. She graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical science. She then went on to do her Honours degree in the University of New South Wales (Sydney) in Microbiology. Upon graduation, she returned to Singapore to pursue her PhD in Microbiology at Nanyang Technological University. She did a research fellowship at the Advanced Environmental Biotechnology centre after which she started lecturing at MDIS.

She currently teaches H2 and O level Biology at the MDIS College and lectures undergraduates at the School of Life Sciences in areas including Genetics, Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics. In addition, she supervises undergraduates in their lab-based final year research projects, which includes laboratory techniques and thesis writing.

Tan Teck Khiang

Mr Tan worked in Finance, Accounting and HR for more than 20 years before he started teaching. Whenever possible, he will incorporate his work experiences and real life examples into his lessons to make them more interesting and relevant. After all, accounting is a practical and logical subject that can be applied in our daily lives.

Mr Tan Teck Khiang graduated with Bachelor of Business major in Accounting from Edith Cowan University. He started off as a junior position in the accounts department of a local company. Over 15 years of hard work, he worked his way up the corporate ladder to a Finance Manager in a listed company. After more than 20 years of corporate work, he started to teach part-time since 2011 in a private school to pursue his passion for sharing knowledge. With 8 years of part-time teaching, he is more assured of his passion and decided to convert to full-time teaching in 2019. He specialises in teaching O level Principles of Accounts and A level Principles of Accounting.

Michelle Yeo

Ms Michelle Yeo graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) with Credit (Geography) from the National Institute of Education and a Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences (Hons) majoring in Geography and Chinese Studies from the National University of Singapore (NUS). She is a committed and experienced teacher with more than 15 years of proven track record in teaching and delivering GCE ‘O’ Levels Geography (elective and core) in secondary schools and has achieved at least 20% higher than average national results for GCE ‘O’ Levels.

During her stint at MOE, she played a pivotal role in the school’s Entrepreneurship Programme, and Character and Sexuality Education. In 2007 and 2008, she received the Outstanding Contribution Awards (Humanities and Character Education) from the school for her valuable contribution. As a certified Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) (American Board of NLP) practitioner, she is attentive, adaptable and skilled in using empathy and other emotional intelligence skills to effectively manage students’ learning.

Yasmin Abdeen

Ms. Yasmin Abdeen is a passionate educator with close to thirty years of experience. A trained NIE-trained teacher, she started her career teaching English and Literature at Secondary Schools in Singapore. Yasmin has a Master of Education (Leadership) from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. She teaches at various public and private institutions of higher learning.

Specialising in the teaching of the English Language, Writing, and Communication courses, Ms. Abdeen is also trained in teaching with technology and online pedagogies. Well-versed in various teaching and learning strategies and curriculum design, she is an ACLP-certified trainer for professional learning. Yasmin has worked with students with different learning needs. Committed to academic excellence, she supports and scaffolds students’ learning with empathy and finesse.

Ms. Abdeen delivers engaging lessons confidently and strongly desires to help students achieve their potential. She facilitates thought-provoking discussions to help them connect their learning with real-world applications.

Tan Mei Yin

Ms Tan Mei Yin graduated with a Master of Business Administration, Anglia Ruskin University and she is currently an associate teacher of Management Development Institute of Singapore. After many years of working in the corporate sector, she left her managerial position as a senior financial analyst to pursue her passion in teaching. She is a qualified certified public accountant (CPA) and professional analyst with 20 years of corporate finance experiences in various multinationals.

She had accumulated more than 20 years of teaching experience, specialising in Accounting and Business-related subjects. She had a vast experience in teaching GCE’O’ levels, GCE ‘A’ levels as well as tertiary and university students in many private institutions. Furthermore, with the accumulated corporate and teaching experiences, she had been assigned to provide educational talks and lectures in various overseas universities for exchange programs, seminars as well as provide mentoring and coaching.

She strongly believes that learning is a never-ending journey and obtained her ACTA certification showing her ability to be a qualified trainer, which had the desire to train and to design new curriculum. She is always willing to share her experiences and impart knowledge in a fun interesting manner to students with real life scenarios.

Cornelius Chew

Mr Cornelius Chew graduated with a BSc in Physics and Applied Physics from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He has also obtained both his Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and the Public Service Commission (PSC) Scholarship (Teaching Service) with merit from the National Institute of Education (NIE). With many years of teaching experience in various Junior Colleges, Secondary Schools and International schools, Mr Cornelius is well-versed in teaching Physics subjects and Project Work for the GCE ‘A’ Level, GCE ‘O’ level and IGCSE courses. He had attended a Cambridge Physics Examinations Marker's Course and is trained to teach H3 Physics.

After leaving the Ministry of Education (MOE), he went on to obtain his Postgraduate Certificate in Quantitative Methods from the Heriot Watts University, UK. He is the co-author of the GCE ‘A’ Levels Physics guidebook: "H2 Physics Summary Notes" and the developer of the Physics Data Logger Experiments which is widely used in Secondary schools and Junior Colleges in Singapore. Prior to joining MDIS as an Associate Lecturer, he worked briefly as the secondary Physics Curriculum Developer for Mindstretcher, Singapore.

Francis Yip Keng Cheong

Francis has more than 40 years of working experience in the public and private sectors. He has been teaching English to local and foreign students at various educational institutions for more than 15 years. He has taught a range of courses including GCE ‘O’ Level, AEIS and English for working adults. He holds a degree in English and Literature from the Open University (United Kingdom), a Diploma in TESOL (with distinction) and a Certificate in Teaching IELTs (With Distinction) from the London Teacher Training College.

With his many years of work experience, Francis is able to bring his experience into the classroom and engage his students during their lessons. As an educator, he believes in inspiring his students and bringing out the best in them.

Alex Yeo

Mr Alex Yeo has been teaching since 2005. His background, expertise and professional training have been in English, with a BA (Hons) English from the University of London, Diploma in TESOL from the London Teacher Training Centre, and a Master of Education (English Language) from the National Institute of Education, NTU. He is also a certified WSQ Adult Educator with an Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment.

Mr Yeo has taught the full range of English language courses, from Singapore’s local examinations of PSLE, N-Level, O-Level English and A-Level General Paper, to international English courses like IELTS and IGCSE. He has taught in local schools and private educational institutes, and lectured in local polytechnics in Communication Skills, Personal Development, General Studies and English Language modules.

Kivan Tan

Ms Kivan Tan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science (First Class Honors) majoring in Cellular Pathology from University of Bradford. With more than 10 years of teaching experience in Tutoring centres and Private Education institutions, she is well-versed in teaching GCE O level Biology, Physics and Chemistry as well as IP Chemistry. She has been tasked to train tutors in Tutoring centres.

She uses a variety of mediums and relating to real-life scenarios, making learning more immersive and enjoyable for students. She customises the classes to address to their specific needs helping students who are struggling with the subjects to score well.

Tan Kok Heng

Kok Heng is a teacher by training, who graduated from the National Institute of Education with a Post Graduate Diploma in Education. He also holds a Bachelor Degree of Engineering from the Nanyang Technological University and a Master of Education from the University of Sheffield.

With a passion for teaching mathematics, Kok Heng joined the teaching fraternity after a two-year research stint with A*Star. He taught in secondary school before joining the polytechnic. He has experience teaching students of varied academic backgrounds. His area of profession is in the teaching and learning of Mathematics where he has developed a deep interest in the area of assessment and learning diagnostic. He hopes to continue to impart his knowledge to inspire more students in their learning of mathematics.
