Professional Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality OperationsAwarded by: MDIS
Programme Objectives
The Professional Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Operations is designed with the primary objective of developing students into practical, competent, and effective practitioners in the international hospitality and tourism sector. Students will engage in a comprehensive range of competency and skill-based training, focusing on the operational aspects of the hospitality and food and beverage industry. The curriculum emphasizes practical skills development through hands-on training at our on-campus hospitality training lab, Tropical Breeze, and through industrial attachment. Students will learn to handle customer requests, respond to feedback and complaints, manage operational costs, plan and organize events, and supervise peers or staff, as well as attaining foundational theoretical knowledge in food and beverage operations and hospitality establishments.
Industrial Attachment:
The purpose of industrial attachment is to provide students an opportunity to develop applied competence in hospitality/tourism/events management through structured on-the-job learning experiences in commercial and/or institutional establishments. It will enable students to synthesize the theoretical and analytical content within the practice environment of travel, tourism and hospitality. The internship develops the learners’ abilities to take responsibility for and demonstrate initiative for their own learning experience. Students will gain credit for the learning achieved as part of the placement activity and will reflect upon and learn from the experience.
Industrial Attachment Placement decision is based on solely at the employer’s discretion and, where applicable, is subjected to the approval of Training Work Permit (TWP) issued by Singapore Ministry of Manpower (MOM) (only applicable to International Students) or similar authority overseas. Students are expected to take responsibility for their learning and gain credit for their experiences during the placement. The decision regarding placement is primarily at the discretion of the employer, with certain conditions such as obtaining a Training Work Permit for international students in Singapore. The school may assist in sourcing internships, and if a student is unable to secure a placement, alternatives may be provided.
Once placed, students are expected to adhere to the rules and regulations of the organisation and complete the 6-month attachment. Premature dropout or termination based on disciplinary grounds may result in failure of the module and disciplinary inquiry by the school.
