The overall aims of the course are to:

• Develop a detailed understanding of the different stages of the Data Analytics and Data Mining Lifecycle and the technologies and techniques available to support each stage
• Evaluate client / organisational needs and select appropriate tools and technologies to collect, store and manage data
• Develop decision-making processes based on data gathering and analysis
• Develop knowledge of programming concepts for business analytics
• Develop an advanced ability to present and communicate data effectively for a range of audiences
• Design and deliver self-service analytics solutions and reports
• Develop the skills and knowledge required to analyse data using a range of techniques, technologies and software in order to inform business decisions
• Develop the knowledge and programming skills required to prototype business analytics applications
• To critically analyse ethical considerations when collecting and managing data and to understand and advise on the legal principles and policies which govern data collection and management
• Demonstrate the ability to research, develop and deliver a Business Analytics project within an area of professional interest to themselves, integrating the skills and knowledge outlined in the previous stages

Graduation Outcomes

The course teaches students to access, manage, analyse and present data in appropriate formats. Students will work with a range of analytics software, techniques and data management technologies to inform business decisions based on data drawn from real world scenarios. Students will learn how to scope, commission, manage and deliver data projects that support business processes. The course encourages students to contextualise their learning within professional practice through collaborations with industry and live projects, facilitating deep learning, portfolio development and strong links with industry.
