The Master of Public Health (MPH) framework is designed to enable students to be adept at accessing, critically analysing and synthesising contemporary public health theory, policies and practices to provide evidence-based knowledge in key public health areas of health protection, health improvement and health care services.
It will enable them to apply their understanding of public health to underpin a range of interventions to improve public health outcomes in practice, within both government and non-government organisations, commissioning services, voluntary sector or community development in disadvantaged areas.
By utilising critical appraisal and reflection, they will be encouraged to challenge their existing knowledge, beliefs and attitudes regarding multi-dimensional determinants of health and wellbeing, public health intelligence, and epidemiological knowledge transfer.
Through the development and critical evaluation of research methodologies, they will be empowered to interpret evidence, as well as defend and justify public health and public health nutrition issues to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
Throughout the programme, the critical analysis of models and skills needed for leadership, management and systems based thinking public health, and/or healthcare related contexts will be sharpened, enhancing employability prospects locally and globally.
Through independent learning, they will also conceptualise and apply theoretical perspectives to complex public health practice or policy to produce a dissertation demonstrating originality in the application and integration of new and existing knowledge, which could have the potential to transfer within different public health contexts.
