right course

We have all been through this headache. After years of study, we reach a tipping point where we have to make a difficult choice in choosing the right course to further our studies.

Obviously it’s a heavy decision, as your career path is usually shaped by the choices you make now.

In order to make things a little easier, here are 5 tips to choosing the right course at MDIS

Table of Contents

  • Tip 1: Ask yourself why
  • Tip 2: Find out what you are interested in
  • Tip 3: Reality check
  • Tip 4: Research
  • Tip 5: Career Prospects and Study Outcomes

Tip 1: Ask yourself why

One of the most important points to note when choosing a course is knowing why you are looking to study. Are you looking to broaden your knowledge? Choose something different from what you already know! If your aim is to progress further with your current employment, then you will naturally need to choose a course that is relevant to your work and valuable to your employer.

Think about your current skill set and knowledge. Do discuss your options with friends, colleagues, bosses or family. They might offer useful insights to determine what can help with your purpose of studying.

Tip 2: Find out what you are interested in

This is quite the common sense. Study something you are interested in! Choose a course that you are excited about. The major pitfall is to choose a certain course because of it is what your parents want.

Tip 3: Reality check

Once you have identified your dream course, do make sure it is realistic. Are you financially able to afford it? Do you pass all the minimum entry requirements? Language requirements?

Make sure that you are able to qualify for the course. Even if there are certain issues that hinder your entry to your desired course, don’t get discouraged! Do something about it to overcome the issue.

Tip 4: Research

Once you have narrowed down to a few practical courses you want to study, its time to research deeply into them. Read blogs, forums, news etc. on the school or course. Find out what it is really like. Don’t just rely on agents selling you a rosy outlook or judging purely through marketing materials.

Investing in education is often not a small sum of money so make sure you know what you are getting into!

Tip 5: Career Prospects and Study Outcomes

Studying is an investment in your future. It will directly affect your career path and salary. Make sure that you are clear about the study outcomes and career prospects of the course you are planning to enroll into. If possible, try to talk to active alumni to find out more.
