Mediacorp’s Star Awards 2018 showcases creations by MDIS student designers

The Star Awards 2018《红星大奖2018》, held at Mediacorp on 22 April gathered local artistes under one roof for a night of glamour to recognise their past year’s efforts and achievements.

It was a night of celebration for MDIS too, as creations from two student designers, Lu Wenting and Agata Maureen from the School of Fashion and Design (SFD), were specially chosen by veteran actress Pan Ling Ling (潘玲玲) to be worn at the Star Awards 2018 ceremony.

“I was honestly shocked when I received news that my design has been selected by Ms Pan Ling Ling. I recognised immediately that was a very rare opportunity and a big achievement for me to dress a top local celebrity for one of the most prestigious awards ceremony in Singapore! Looking back, this whole episode felt like a dream! I am very grateful to MDIS and Mediacorp for the opportunity and trust placed in me. I am turning 18 this year and this is the best birthday gift ever.” – Lu Wenting (Sarah), Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Fashion Design, Awarded by Nottingham Trent University, UK.

“When my dress was selected by Ms Pan Ling Ling to be worn at Star Awards 2018, it was an unforgettable moment in my life as a student designer in the fashion industry. MDIS gave me the opportunity to participate in a competition. And as a result of that, I got to design her dress for the red carpet. I learned a lot of things that could only be taught by experience.
My dress inspiration is an Enchanted Garden. I wanted to make the dress look simple yet elegant. The main focus is the gold leaves and flowers which I bought in Indonesia, which I hand sewn to make it look more high fashion and haute couture.” – Agata Maureen, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Fashion Design, Nottingham Trent University, UK.

Both SFD student designers – Lu Wenting and Agata Maureen are from China and Indonesia respectively.

Our congratulations to Ms Pan Ling Ling (潘玲玲) for clinching the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes award!
