From Classroom to Career Growth: Karice’s Journey with the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Business and Management (Top-Up)

For many working professionals, the thought of pursuing a degree while juggling career responsibilities can feel daunting: Can I really manage work, studies, and life all at once? At MDIS, our part-time degree programmes are designed to make this possible — offering flexibility, practical learning, and opportunities to grow professionally.

To give a closer look at this journey, we spoke with, who recently graduated from the  Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Business and Management (Top-Up) programme with the University of Sunderland, UK at MDIS. She shared her motivations, challenges, and how her part-time degree has shaped her career and personal growth.

Meet Karice

Karice is a Senior Executive in the financial services industry, with years of hands-on experience and professional growth. Her role requires precision, efficiency, and the ability to anticipate industry shifts — qualities strengthened through her academic journey at MDIS.

“My education at MDIS has shaped me to anticipate changes in the modern world while providing a solid foundation for understanding the business environment.”

For her, pursuing a degree wasn’t just about earning a qualification — it was about building practical skills, enhancing leadership abilities, and preparing for future opportunities.

Why a Part-Time Degree?

Choosing a part-time degree allowed Karice to continue working full-time while studying.

“The programme took two years to complete, which meant I could grow in my career and study at the same time.”

Flexibility was key. She could apply lessons directly to her professional responsibilities while maintaining financial independence, making the programme an ideal pathway for working adults.

Why MDIS and the University of Sunderland?

Karice highlights the industry relevance of the curriculum and the expertise of the lecturers as major factors in her decision.

“The lecturers brought real-world experience into the classroom and offered one-on-one guidance on assignments. That made learning much more practical and meaningful.”

The programme’s approach helped her translate theory into actionable strategies in the workplace, providing insights she could immediately implement.

Balancing Work and Study

Managing both work and academics required planning and discipline. Karice made a point to communicate with her supervisor to adjust workload when needed and prioritised her tasks effectively.

“Time management was my key strategy. I tackled the important tasks first and set my own deadlines to stay on track.”

Her proactive approach ensured she could maintain strong performance at work while keeping up with coursework.

Turning Lessons into Real-World Impact

One of the most rewarding aspects of Karice’s degree was applying classroom knowledge to improve workplace processes.

“We studied business process improvement. When I noticed delays affecting customer satisfaction, I applied those techniques to identify bottlenecks and streamline my team’s workflow. It made a real impact.”

Her story shows how lessons from MDIS go beyond textbooks, delivering tangible results in professional settings.

Personal and Professional Growth

Beyond academic knowledge, the programme strengthened Karice’s confidence, critical thinking, and leadership skills. Her growth was recognised with a promotion, and she now approaches challenges with greater clarity and purpose.

“The programme shaped me into a better leader. I can think strategically, guide my team, and handle challenges with confidence.”

Advice for Aspiring Students

Karice encourages working professionals considering a part-time degree:

“Reach out to the programme consultants at MDIS. They will guide you in choosing the right course and planning your study journey.”

Her message is simple — with careful planning and support, part-time study can be transformative personally and professionally.

Looking Ahead: A Future in Leadership

Karice aspires to step into a leadership role, mentoring others and driving organisational excellence. She believes her MDIS experience prepared her to face future challenges with confidence and strategic thinking.

“MDIS taught me to look beyond textbooks, see challenges as opportunities, and lead with purpose. Growth comes from curiosity, adaptability, and a commitment to serve better.”

At MDIS, a part-time degree is more than a qualification — it’s a pathway to skill development, professional growth, and personal transformation.
