Diploma in Accounting (Awarded by Management Development Institute of Singapore)

Objectives

• To provide a framework for developing accounting as well as business skills and knowledge needed at all management work
• This course has been designed for students seeking careers in Accounting or Auditing Industries

Assessment Methods

To pass the module, students must obtain an overall mark of 50% or more. Each module is assessed by 20% assignment, 10% class participation and 70% examination.

Graduation and Degree/Certificate/Diploma

Students who successfully complete the programme with the Diploma in Accounting awarded by MDIS.

The Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS), founded in 1956, is Singapore's oldest not-for-profit professional institute for lifelong learning. MDIS has two subsidiaries: Management Development Institute of Singapore Pte Ltd (MDIS Pte Ltd) to oversee its Singapore academic operations, and MDIS International Pte Ltd to further its globalisation strategy.

Principles of Production Management

This unit is to provide knowledge and understanding of operations management as the management of a manufacturing or service organisation’s conversion process. Principle issues concerning capacity and project resource management, operations planning and quality assurance will also be addressed.

Fundamentals of Information Technology

This unit is to provide participants with fundamental concepts of computer, adequate knowledge of business computing concepts, hardware and software components and information processing skills.

International Marketing

This unit enables participants to acquire skills in applying marketing techniques in foreign countries and to increase the participants; awareness of the problems inherent in international marketplace.

Organisational Behaviour

This unit aims to develop an understanding of the various behavioural and Human Resource Management issues in an organisation and translating the concepts into real life application.

Business Accounting

This unit enables participants to apply accounting concepts, assumptions and principles to the analysis of business transactions and to prepare financial statements.

Cost Accounting

This unit enables participants to develop and understanding of cost terminology, cost classification and cost behaviour, control of cost within an organization and the use of cost information to make management decision and the teachniques of costing for products and services.

Interested applicants must possess ONE of the following entrance requirements:

• GCE 'O' Levels (minimum 3 passes at C6 credit including English language)

    OR

• Full GCE 'N' Levels (minimum 5 passes at C6 credit including English language)

    OR

• MDIS Professional Certificate

    OR

• ITE/NITEC, Higher NITEC, CBS & ITC

    OR

• Partial GCE 'A' Levels

    OR

• Equivalent qualification from recognised institutions with relevant working experience with at least 2 years can be considered on case by case basis

Other equivalent qualification may be considered on a case by case basis

Additional Criteria

All applicants must possess a C6 pass in English at GCE 'O' Levels.

Applicants who do not meet the English requirements are required to:

• To sit and pass the English placement test conducted by MDIS

    OR

• To score a minimum of band 6 in IELTS conducted by the British Council

    OR

• To score 213 points (computer-based) or 550 points (paper-based) in TOEFL
