At the Award Presentation Ceremony, graced by Minister for Education Mr Ong Ye Kung, on 1 November at Ritz Carlton’s Grand Ballroom, the institute received additional good news; it had bagged the overall winner of the SPBA – Heritage Brands 2018 award! Cheers and shouts of jubilation could be heard from the MDIS entourage as they celebrated the double win. 

The SPBA recognises and honours Singapore brands that have been developed and managed effectively through various branding initiatives.

ASME president, Mr Kurt Wee said in his welcome address, "Branding is at the core of a business as a strong brand allows business owners to build on trust that transcends geography and time."

With the increasing number of homegrown brands becoming established household names, achieving this esteemed mark of success is certainly a significant milestone in the branding journey of any local brand. The award also serves as a yardstick for Small and Medium Enterprises to benchmark their brand equity competitors.

Mr Ong Ye Kung shared in his speech, “The brand name is one of the key driving factors of successful companies here.

“All of our successful companies have built good brand names, which are anchored on capabilities and what your products and services stand for."

SPBA was inaugurated in 2002, by the Association of Small & Medium Enterprises (ASME) and Lianhe Zaobao, Singapore’s flagship Chinese daily. It comprises of six award categories, namely SPBA - Micro Brands, SPBA - Promising Brands, SPBA - Established Brands, SPBA - Heritage Brands, SPBA - Regional Brands and SPBA - Special Merit. A total of 30 winners received awards last night, with an overall winner chosen for each category except for SPBA - Micro Brands and Special Merit.

This accolade is a testament of MDIS as a trusted brand; one that continues to provide quality education, both locally and internationally, forging meaningful collaborations with acclaimed global university partners and industry partners across sectors.

As a heritage brand of 62 years, the institute ensures it stays relevant by continue to grow with the nation and evolve with industry needs. It is striving to offer more skills-based programmes and enhance its infrastructure and facilities to help students gain and develop industry relevant skills and experiences.

The institute has grown beyond partnerships with overseas universities. It has effectively gone global wirth campuses in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Capitalising on the "Singapore brand", MDIS will continue to expand education in the region and contribute to solidifying Singapore's reputation as a strong education hub.
