Good morning,

Guest-of-Honour, Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, Former Senior Minister of State for Law & Home Affairs

Dr Ahmad Magad, Senate Chairman of the Management Development Institute of Singapore;

Dr R Theyvendran, Secretary-General of the Management Development Institute of Singapore;

Professor John G Hughes, Vice Chancellor, Bangor University;

Distinguished Guests,

Graduands and Parents,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

1  We are here on a very special occasion – to celebrate the graduation of our MDIS and Bangor University graduands. It is a proud moment for all of us - for our graduands, their parents and loved ones, and also for both our institutions and lecturers.  Congratulations to all our graduands!

2  The academic journey undertaken by our 204 graduands from Bangor University’s Master and Bachelor programmes has been filled with challenges. It has tested their mettle but they have come out stronger, and emerged triumphant today. We not only celebrate their achievements, we also celebrate their spirit and dedication in attaining their academic goals.

3  This graduation also marks the second for MDIS and Bangor University, and we are proud to share that 36 graduands have received First Class Honours this year. Our heartiest congratulations to all our graduands on their excellent academic performance.

MDIS-Bangor University Partnership
4  MDIS’ partnership with Bangor University, established in 2014, has grown from strength to strength. Our commitment to the partnership has seen us expand the University’s academic programmes that are offered at MDIS. These programmes include the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Accounting and Finance.

5  Bangor University’s programmes are also offered in MDIS Tashkent. A total of seven programmes are now offered there, and 450 students have successfully graduated from MDIS Tashkent campus in 2016 and 2017.

6  Indeed, Bangor University’s excellent, quality programmes will provide graduands with a strong foundation for career success. The University has long been recognised for its academic excellence and its multicultural and inclusive student experience. The University is amongst the first group of universities in the UK, and the only one in Wales to achieve Gold in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework.

7  Graduands, the knowledge you have gained and the skills you have acquired through your studies with Bangor University at MDIS will stand you in good stead as you enter the corporate world and climb your way up the career ladder.

Resilience and Success in Today’s Economy
8  As you prepare to step into the corporate world, one of the best ways to secure your job is to keep track of the skills that are needed in your industry. To gain an edge over competitors, keep enhancing your skills and make lifelong learning a part of you.

9  Plan ahead, engage in continuous professional learning and training to upskill yourself. Be open to change and embrace new ways of working. Be adaptable and resilient to sustain your employability and achieve career success.

10  Remember your alma mater and join the MDIS alumni and participate in our events to continue to build and expand your network. I wish all of you every success in your future endeavours.

Thank you.
