Most luxury brands have issued profit warnings and\nlowered revenue forecasts. The pandemic has caused a collapse in the fashion\nindustry as most of the luxury brands are based in Europe. In the meantime,\nfashion weeks have also been called off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\nhave closed all our shops in France and some other European countries based on\nthe request of the respective governments.\u201d On 15 March, Hermes, one of the\nworld\u2019s leading luxury brand, has shut down all of its French production sites,\ntotalling to about 40 manufacturers and tannery factories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior\nto that, Gucci, an iconic Italian luxury brand, had also closed its factories\nin Tuscany and Marche, and said the business\u2019 closure could be extended because\nseveral regions are in a lockdown and the COVID-19 pandemic continues to\nescalate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chanel,\none of the bellwethers in the fashion industry, stated that it would\ntemporarily close down all production sites in France, Switzerland and Italy\nfor two weeks, on 18 March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No\none anticipated that the coronavirus outbreak would hit the heart of the\nfashion market in an instant. The luxury industry, which regards its production\nsites as the respective brands\u2019 quality benchmarks, was plunged into an\nunprecedented situation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nbutterfly effect of the COVID-19 pandemic has been felt around the world. Hand\nsanitisers, protective garments and respirators are luxury items now. The\nCentres for Disease Control officially recommended widespread use of masks to\nhelp slow the spread of the coronavirus. The shield transitions from\nclear to dark under sunlight, much like the progressive lenses of sunglasses\nand spectacles, thus protecting the wearer\u2019s eyes. Agata Maureen, former student from MDIS School of Fashion Design, decided to contribute to the curbing of the spread of the pandemic by launching IKIMOMO, a personal online brand that designs washable masks using breathable fabric.
