The twelve units involve an intensive total of 432 classroom contact hours, with 36 contact hours per unit. Six of the twelve units will be delivered partially (12 hours per unit) by the University’s academic staff and 24 hours per unit by local SCU approved lecturers.

It is essential to the success of the international tourism and hospitality industries that its managers understand and can apply relevant management practices to the increasingly complex environments in which they work. This project-based unit comprises an important component of the program in which participants apply knowledge and skills acquired during the preceding units to a particular tourism or hospitality situation. Following an overview of research methods for managers working in these fields, the project unit provides students with the opportunity to evaluate a tourism or hospitality issue using appropriate research methodology. The unit provides students with an overview of research (and its related processes) for tourism and hospitality managers. By undertaking an industry-based research project, students will be able to plan, collect, analyse, interpret and report data, which are essential prerequisite functions for planning, strategy development and problem solving in any industry. The nature and structure of the study for this unit is directed by the underlying elements fundamental to the research process.

Introduces and develops students’ perspectives of the meetings, incentive, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) industry both nationally and internationally. Students examine and evaluate the functional areas of management, marketing human resources and finance and their interrelationship with the MICE industry at both a strategic and operational level. Strategies for evaluating MICE activities are addressed together with implications for future research.
MNG03236 Tourism and Hotel Professional Development
Lifelong learning and ongoing professional development are key to maintaining a dynamic and satisfying career. This unit contributes to students’ continuing professional development by focusing on the skills necessary to find an internship and employment. It provides practical hands-on experience within a hotel and encourages students to explore potential career options and develop links with industry. Students gain an understanding of the nature and requirements of the business environment through experiential learning and develop a personalised career plan.
