The Faculty of Engineering has been delivering world-class engineering education for more than 150 years. With a range of engineering degrees fully accredited by the relevant UK professional institutions, it is a University that is setting new standards in engineering education. The University of Glasgow has a long history of mechanical engineering, dating back to James Watt in the 1760s and William Macquorn Rankine in the 1870s. The first chair of engineering in the UK was established at Glasgow in 1840.
