Seminar in Comparative Politics and Public Policies
The focus of the course is a comparison of the political systems and institutions of major countries or regions of the world. These countries includes the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, China, India, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria and several Southeast Asia states, including Singapore. Each study of the country will include a historical analysis, and examination of governmental institutions, political parties, interest groups, the media and public policy.
Politics, Economics, America and The Future
The purpose of this course is to explore significant events and issues in the history of the United States. The course will enable participants to better interpret the United States, her policies and attitudes. Participants would learn about global conflicts, economic supremacy and failures, the progress of social reforms and culture changes, and the varieties of American life.
Advertising Campaign Planning & Management
The world of professional advertising is changing rapidly and dramatically. The purpose of this course is to enable participants to understand the changing marketplace and also to prepare them for the changes to come.
Public Relations Campaign Planning and Management
This course will encourage participants to explore and evaluate alternative methods and approaches in response to PR situations and provide simulated experience in specific areas of PR.
Arts and Our World
This course is an introduction into experiencing various aspects of the arts, as they express creativity and the artistic process. This course does not provide a history of art, nor will it make participants expert critics or practitioners of art. It would allows participants to perceive the arts in their environment. It requires participants to interact, respond, and think critically about forms of art, and to use their own creativity in the process.
Values and Cultures
This course aims to provide participants with an understanding of essential elements of western worldview through the reflection of selected texts dealing with one or more of the three basic concepts: “the true”, “the good” and “the beautiful”. Participants are encouraged to reflect critically on their own attitudes towards knowledge, value and beauty on the influence of differing cultural contexts.
Research & Writing in the Academic Community
The purpose of this course is to expand the writing skills and to provide a deeper understanding of academic writing and a greater ability to write persuasively and ethically. To understand research as a powerful means of invention for writing tasks and to strengthen in participants higher order critical thinking skills crucial for effective academic writing.
On-Campus Residency
Management of Personal Life Styles
This workshop is designed to explore and offer an overview on the various issues and topics, which affect one’s own personal health and wellness. The concepts of education on grooming a total person, stress management, time management, personal health and the effects of the environment on the individual will be addressed in this workshop.
Environmental Science
This course is designed to give participants background in both ecology and environmental science. Participants need to understand how natural systems work and they will be required to apply the principles to current environmental issues. An attempt will be made to integrate these two disciplines. The objective is to increase awareness in such a way that future generations will be cognizant of potential environmental strains that can be placed on a system when certain political, social and economic decisions are made.
Television Programme Production at OKCU/TV Studio
Students will experience hands on training in the production of weekly television programmes. In addition, a student production project would be included. These would be produced at the OKCU-TV facility on the OCU campus.
