MDIS Business School

DEGREE

Bachelor of Business (Major in Accounting)
(Awarded by Edith Cowan University, Australia)


Objectives

This course is specially designed with the following objectives:
  • This program is targeted at young graduates from any field and with little or no prior work experience and working professionals who plan to venture into the Accounting and Auditing business arena
  • To give students comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in business while allowing greater flexibility for students to specialise in one or two functional business disciplines to suit individual needs and interests
  • This programme has been designed for students seeking careers as professional accountants
  • Graduates of Accounting can expect to find starting employment in Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, Financial Planning and Strategic Business Planning
  • This programme is accredited by CPA, Australia. Upon completion of the programme, students may become a provisional member of the CPA Australia and be eligible for the admission into the CPA programme and Professional Year programme of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia (ICAA)
  • The institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore has reciprocal recognition of membership with CPA Australia and ICAA
  • Graduate in the accounting major who have successfully fulfilled the requirements can apply for an associate membership with the CPA

Structure and Duration

Evening Programme
 
Minimum 24 months
2-3 modules per term with 3 terms per year
Supported by the University’ faculty and taught by local approved lecturers
 
Day Programme
 
Minimum 18 months
4 modules per term with 3 terms per year
Supported by the University’ faculty and taught by local approved lecturers
 
The duration of the course depends on the academic background and the advanced standing granted to each student and the numbers of modules completed each term. Student can take up to 4 units each term for full time and 3 units for part time. The actual sequence of the modules to be delivered may be subjected to change without prior notice.
 

Assessment Methods

Each module is assessed by assignment, class participation and an examination

Graduation and Degree/Certificate/Diploma

Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded with the Bachelor of Business (Accounting) awarded by Edith Cowan University, Australia.

SCHOOL OF ACCOUNTING, FINANCE AND ECONOMICS

The School has a strong practical orientation that equips students with the skills to find employment within their profession. Each year new graduates are keenly sought by employers across Australia and the world. All courses within the School embrace generic skills such as oral and written communication skills, critical thinking and problem solving abilities. In addition, the School places a strong emphasis on information technology.

The School is supported by a Consultative Committee, which includes members from practices, public sector and industry. This Committee takes a close interest in the accounting curriculum and the School’s teaching resources to ensure the accounting units are relevant to industry and accounting practice. The School of Accounting is one of four schools within Edith Cowan University’s Faculty of Business and Law.


Entry Requirements

Applicants must possess ONE of the following entrance requirements:
  • Professional Diploma in Business awarded by MDIS
    OR
  • GCE 'A' Levels or equivalent (2 passes with minimum C6 credit
    OR
  • Other diploma qualifications from recognised institutions can be considered on a case by case basis subjected to the university's approval.

Advanced Standing

Applicants who possess relevant business qualifications will be able to gain advanced standing based on the relevancy obtained and are subjected to the university's final approval.
