Graduate Certificate in Mass Communications
(Jointly awarded by MDIS and Oklahoma City University, USA )


Objectives

  • The Graduate Certificate in Mass Communications is designed for managers, executives and professionals who are seeking a skills upgrade programme or for those individuals who are seeking a career change to one of the mass communications industries but do not possess the specific background for entry.
  • In addition, the Graduate Certificate in Mass Communications is the ideal pathway for professionals who wish to enter the Master of Arts in Mass Communications degree programme offered by Oklahoma City University but do not possess the required academic background in mass communications. Students who wish to gain entrance to the Master of Arts in Mass Communications must complete all three modules prior to admission.
  • If you are already working in a communications oriented field but need a skills upgrade or if you are thinking about a career change, this programme is designed for you.

Structure and Duration

This programme is available for Local students only

  • The programme caters to professionals and therefore will be taught in eight sessions scheduled over two weekends. There will be a total of 3 modules in this programme.
  • All courses will be taught by senior level faculty from Oklahoma City University on site in Singapore. The programme can be completed within 4-5 months. All modules must be completed within an 18 month time period.

Assessment Methods

The class size is small and classes are conducted on an interactive workshop style. All modules are assessed by class assignments, case studies and assigned reports. There will be no examinations.

Graduation and Degree/Certificate/Diploma

To receive the Graduate Certificate in Mass Communications, students must complete all three modules constituting the programme with a minimum GPA of 2.5 ("C+") and with no grades lower than 2.0 ("C").
A minimum GPA of 3.0 ("B") is required for admission to the OCU’s Master of Arts in Mass Communications programme.

The Graduate Certificate in Mass Communications will be jointly awarded by the Oklahoma City University, USA and MDIS. Graduates can used the designatory term Grad Cert Mass Communications after their name.

Entry Requirements

Applicants seeking entry into this programme must possess :
  • A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a locally accredited college, university or polytechnic
Students with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in which the programme was not conducted in English must present to OCU a certified translation of the transcript and all other documents from that institution for admissions purposes, and must demonstrate English Language proficiency.

English Language proficiency may be demonstrated by a minimum TOEFL score of 550 points (paper-based) or 80 points (internet-based) or IELTS composite score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5. An interview also may be required.

All applications are approved by the Oklahoma City University

Other equivalent qualification may be considered on a case by case basis
