Programme Aims & Objectives

  • To enable participants to acquire sufficient breadth of knowledge, deeper insights and greater understanding of the interdisciplinary areas of managing human resources management.
  • Participants will be provided with a structured training for personal and career development and job knowledge. It is also an endorsement of their competence in attaining both academic and practical understanding of the subject matters

 

Assessment Methods

Modules will be assessed through a combination of coursework and examinations depending on the individual module’s objectives. Each module is assessed by 20% assignment or test, 10% participation and 70% examination. Participants must obtain an overall mark of 50% and above in order to pass the module.

Participants must achieve at least 80% class attendance to be eligible to sit for examination.

 

Graduation and Degree/Certificate/Diploma

Candidates who successfully complete the programme will be awarded the MDIS Graduate Diploma in Human Resources Management recognised by Southern Cross University for the purpose of advanced standing into certain Southern Cross University's courses, subject to the University’s rules and regulations.

In addition, graduates from the programme are entitled to use the designatory title, GDip. HRM, after their names.

Employee Relations

This module introduces participants to local labour laws, terms and conditions under the Employment Act and how to handle grievances and other labour management relations.

Other topics include workplace safety and health management, introduction to Trade Union Act and roles of the Industrial Arbitration Court, National Wages Council, and International Labour Organisation.

 

Human Capital Management

This module will examine the trends and application of human capital management and strategic human resource management.

Topics include strategic human resource planning, performance and talent management, succession planning and organisational renewal, job analysis and compensation, recruitment and selection, international human resource management and measuring returns on human capital investment.

 

Managing Compensation and Benefits

This module provides participants with guidelines that organisations might use to design reward systems. It discusses the characteristics of an effective reward system, the behavioural, economic and legal perspectives of remuneration and explores the different approaches to rewarding performance.

Other topics include the nature of intrinsic and extrinsic reward, traditional bases for pay and international compensation and benefits.

 

Organisational Behaviour

This module provides participants with an understanding of organisational behaviour theories and concepts. The topics include predicting and influencing people behaviour at work and how to apply established and innovative techniques to better manage people resource.

Topics include human motivation, techniques of behaviour modification, psychological and achievement tests, group behaviour and leadership and power in organisation.

 

Organisation Development

This module provides participants an understanding of how organisational change takes place and the training and organisational development techniques managers can use to effect the change.

Topics include management of change, re-engineering and downsizing, roles of organisation development consultants, inter-group conflict management, employee empowerment interventions and balanced scorecard.

Entry Requirements

  • Degree / Diploma from a recognised university or institution and have preferably 2 years of working experience
  • Applicants must demonstrate Proficiency in English (with minimum grade C Pass in English at GCE 'O' Level)

Applicants without C6 pass in English (EL1) as First Language or its equivalent are required:

  • To sit and pass the English Entrance Test conducted by MDIS;

    OR

  • To score a minimum of band 6.0 in IELTS conducted by the British Council;

    OR

  • To score 213 points (computer-based) or 550 points (paper-based) in TOEFL

Other equivalent qualification may be considered on a case by case basis

 

Progression

Participants who successfully complete the Graduate Diploma programme will be able to apply for the Southern Cross University's Master of Business Administration programme, subject to meeting University's requirements.

All applications must be submitted four weeks before the commencement date. It is important that applicants apply early for specific intakes.

All applications must be accompanied with a non-refundable application fee stated below and attach the following supporting documents duly certified (if applicable):

  • University Matriculation Form (if applicable)

  • Registration fee of $32.10 (non-refundable)

Management Development Institute of SIngapore Pte Ltd (MDIS Pte Ltd) collects course fees in accordance to the fees structure stipulated in the standard PEI-Student Contract. An administrative charge of S$107.00 (inclusive of GST) will be levied on each late instalment payment of the course fee. Fees are payable upon confirmation and acceptance of the place in the programme before the programme commencement.

Payment can be made by cash, NETS, VISA, MasterCard, AMEX, Tele-graphic Transfer or by cheque or through our financial assistance scheme. For cheque payment, please indicate the details of the programme applied for on the back of the cheque, stating clearly you personal particulars and company name.

Cheques must be crossed and made payable to "MDIS Pte Ltd". Student Name, NRIC/FIN Number and Course Title should be written on the reverse of your cheque.
