Objectives

  • To equip participants with practical business concepts to understand and to handle some challenges of managing across national borders.
  • To inculcate students the spirit of entrepreneurship to venture into international business arena.

 

Assessment Methods

Students are assessed in each unit by various methods. These include researched essays and reports, reports, presentation, case studies, problem solutions portfolio, online discussions, tests and exams.

Students may also be asked to participate in group work as well as individuals assignments. The weighting of assessment marks between assignments and examination varies.

 

Graduation and Degree/Certificate/Diploma

Candidates who successfully complete all coursework and pass the examinations will be awarded the MDIS Advanced Diploma in International Business recognised by Southern Cross University for the purposes of advanced standing into certain Southern Cross University's courses subject to the University’s rules and regulation.

Production & Operations Management

The module introduces student to the concept of production or operations management and the various analytical tools. Upon completion students should be able to deal with problems involved in production and operations management by applying the concepts, ideas and analytical tools taught.

 

Marketing Communications

The module aims to create an awareness of the different facets of marketing communications. For example, advertising, public relations, sales management, below-the-line media and the focus on integrated marketing communications approach.

 

Financial Management

The module provides students with an understanding of the various methods of raising funds for investment under risk and uncertainty. It also aims to provide students with the principles and techniques involved in making investment decision to maximize possible returns; the optimal financial structure and the distribution of wealth to shareholders and financial statements analysis and their implications.

 

Management of HR & The Practice of Management

The module equips students with the essential knowledge and skills in the management of human resources within an orgainisation, and to develop and implement policies and practices to meet the company’s needs. It also aims to develop an understanding of key managerial concepts, both traditional and ‘modern’ related to management as a profession, and to provide a sound basis on which to build knowledge specific managerial activities.

Micro-economics

The module provides students with an understanding of how society resolves the problem of scarcity and the different mechanism through which society decides what, how and for whom to produce. It also shows the demand behaviour of consumers and the supply decisions of producers, and how a market reconciles demand and supply through price adjustments. Students will also understand how differences in market structure affect competition and the output decisions of firms.

 

Managing E-Business

The module provides students with an understanding of the concepts and principles of e-business along with the strategies and business processes that enables practitioners to position their organizations for success. Students would be able to explain how business work on the internet, map out marketing strategies on the internet and understand the legal and security issues concerning e-businesses.

Applicants without C6 credit in English (EL1) at GCE ‘O’ Levels as First Language or its equivalent are required:-

  • To sit and pass English Entrance Test conducted by MDIS;

  • To score a minimum of band 6.0 in IELTS conducted by the British Council

    OR

  • To score 213 points (computer-based) or 550 points (paper-based) in TOEFL

 

Application Procedure

International student is required to apply for student pass if he/she wishes to study full-time in Singapore.

Applicant is required to submit the following documents to MDIS:

  • MDIS Application Form
  • 4 recent passport-size photographs of the applicant. (against white background)
  • 1 copy of Immigration and Checkpoint Authority (ICA) e-Form 16
  • Copy of applicant's passport pages showing his/ her particulars and travel and travel document's date of validity. (At least 1 year)
  • Copy of applicant's Birth Certificate / Affidavit
  • Copy of applicant's Certified / Notarised copy of Education Results/Certificates and Transcripts ( with detailed results)
  • Copy of the student pass (For applicants transferred from other schools in Singapore) or Notification for Cancellation of Student Pass, Visit pass and Embarkation Form.
  • Must show proof of English Medium Study / First Placement Test Attempted / IELTS / TOEFL
  • Copy of financial ability. (e.g. bank statement, fixed deposit / saving account ) • Visa Required Country only (E.g. minimum amount of RMB150, 000 for PRC only)
  • Proof of parent's occupation (PRC only)
  • University Matriculation Form (if applicable)
  • Letter by applicant indicating interest to study with MDIS (study plan/ statement of purpose) for Master programmes

*Notarized English translations are needed if documents are in other languages.

The MDIS application form shall be accompanied by the registration fee of S$250.00 (exclude prevailing GST) and ICA student pass processing fee of SGD 30.00 payable either by cash, credit card or demand draft/telegraphic transfer from the student.

MDIS permits students to pay their course fee in instalments. An administrative charge of S$107.00 (inclusive of GST) will be levied on each late instalment payment of the course fee. Fees are payable upon confirmation and acceptance of the place in the programme before the programme commencement. You may pay your fee by cash, NETS, VISA, MasterCard, AMEX or by cheque or through our financial assistance scheme.If payment is by cheque, please indicate the details of the programme applied for on the back of the cheque, stating clearly you personal particulars and company name. Unless otherwise stated, all fees are inclusive of GST.

Please note that under the Private Education Act, all students will enter into a Fee Protection Scheme contract with MDIS.
