Objectives

  • To equip participants with practical business concepts to understand and to handle some challenges of managing across national borders.
  • To inculcate students the spirit of entrepreneurship to venture into international business arena.

 

Assessment Methods

Students are assessed in each unit by various methods. These include researched essays and reports, reports, presentation, case studies, problem solutions portfolio, online discussions, tests and exams.

Modules are taught in a face-to-face manner.

Students may also be asked to participate in group work as well as individuals assignments. The weighting of assessment marks between assignments and examination varies.

 

Graduation

Candidates who successfully complete all coursework and pass the examinations will be awarded the MDIS Advanced Diploma in International Business.

 

 

 

 

Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS)

The Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS), founded in 1956, is Singapore's oldest not-for-profit professional institute for lifelong learning. MDIS has two subsidiaries: Management Development Institute of Singapore Pte Ltd (MDIS Pte Ltd) to oversee its Singapore academic operations, and MDIS International Pte Ltd to further its globalisation strategy.

 

Production & Operations Management

The module introduces student to the concept of production or operations management and the various analytical tools. Upon completion students should be able to deal with problems involved in production and operations management by applying the concepts, ideas and analytical tools taught.

 

Marketing Communications

The module aims to create an awareness of the different facets of marketing communications. For example, advertising, public relations, sales management, below-the-line media and the focus on integrated marketing communications approach.

 

Financial Management

The module provides students with an understanding of the various methods of raising funds for investment under risk and uncertainty. It also aims to provide students with the principles and techniques involved in making investment decision to maximize possible returns; the optimal financial structure and the distribution of wealth to shareholders and financial statements analysis and their implications.

 

Management of HR & The Practice of Management

The module equips students with the essential knowledge and skills in the management of human resources within an orgainisation, and to develop and implement policies and practices to meet the company’s needs. It also aims to develop an understanding of key managerial concepts, both traditional and ‘modern’ related to management as a profession, and to provide a sound basis on which to build knowledge specific managerial activities.

Micro-economics

The module provides students with an understanding of how society resolves the problem of scarcity and the different mechanism through which society decides what, how and for whom to produce. It also shows the demand behaviour of consumers and the supply decisions of producers, and how a market reconciles demand and supply through price adjustments. Students will also understand how differences in market structure affect competition and the output decisions of firms.

 

Managing E-Business

The module provides students with an understanding of the concepts and principles of e-business along with the strategies and business processes that enables practitioners to position their organizations for success. Students would be able to explain how business work on the internet, map out marketing strategies on the internet and understand the legal and security issues concerning e-businesses.

Interested applicants must possess ONE of the following entry requirements:

  • A full GCE 'A' Level certificate with 2 'A' and 2 'AO' passes

    OR

  • MDIS Diploma in International Business

    OR

  • Any MDIS Diploma in business related discipline

    OR

  • Other recognised local/overseas polytechnics or professional institutes

Other equivalent qualifications may be considered on a case by case basis

 

Additional Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English

Applicants without C6 credit in English (EL1) at GCE ‘O’ Level as First Language or its equivalent are required:-

  • To sit and pass English Entrance Test conducted by MDIS;

             OR

  • To score a minimum of band 6.0 in IELTS conducted by the British Council

    OR

  • To score 213 points (computer-based) or 550 points (paper-based) in TOEFL

  • The above does not include Miscellaneous Fees, which refer to any non-compulsory and non-standard fees which the student will pay only when necessary or applicable.  Such fees are normally collected on an ad-hoc basis by the PEI when the need arises.
