President's Message
2007 has been an exhilarating year that is filled
with achievements for MDIS. We made headway in many areas, from
curriculum and student development, to working with university
partners and industry players to enhance the learning experience
for our students.
MDIS UniCampus
True to our core values, MDIS is actively enhancing the learning
experience at the UniCampus. By leveraging on technology, improving
our services and upgrading our facilities, we are preparing our
students for the new industries in the new knowledge-based economy.
MDIS Recruitment
Despite major challenges and intense competition, MDIS
managed to accomplish yet another record high in surpluses. In
2007, the surplus was S$14.2 million, an increase of 40% as compared
to the previous year. Our student enrolment shows a total of more
than 12,000 students of whom more than 3,000 students come from
55 countries.
MDIS Quality Assurance
MDIS and our university partners have been maintaining strong
emphasis on quality assurance through various quality systems
and awards.
MDIS has received the following awards:
• Singapore Quality Class
• Case Trust for Education
• ISO 9001:2000 Standard
• People Developer Standard
MDIS Spirit of Giving
The belief in giving back to the community is engrained in the
MDIS spirit. This tradition has seen a record of 605 scholarships
and bursaries, worth about S$400,000, given out to deserving students
through its Education Trust Fund in 2007.
To date, MDIS has given out more than S$3 million, to more than
3,000 students. In addition, we have visited old-aged homes and
provided free tuition services for the youths in the boys’ and
girls’ homes.
MDIS Growing with the Nation
MDIS’s role as the leading private educational provider has been
further reinforced through the establishment of the School of
Tourism and Hospitality and the creation of hospitality training
centre, The Tropical Breeze. Mr Lim Swee Say, Minister, Prime
Minister’s Office and NTUC Secretary- General was the Guest-of-Honour
during the centre’s opening ceremony.
MDIS is poised for more exciting growth in 2008. We will provide
more value-added services to our members and students. Our education
programmes will continue to provide holistic education that leads
to globally recognised degrees.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Council
Members, Academic Advisory Board Members for their valuable insights
and contributions, and the staff, lecturers, university partners,
suppliers and students for their continued support.

Dr Eric Kuan
MDIS President
