MDIS Study Assist Fund

 

MDIS Merit Scholarship (Local)

 

Objective

The objective of MDIS Merit Scholarship (Local) is to promote lifelong learning among Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents.

MDIS Merit Scholarship (Local) Award

  • MDIS Merit Scholarship (Local) for Master’s Degree valued at S$5,000 each for Singaporeans / S$4,000 each for Singapore Permanent Residents.
  • MDIS Merit Scholarship (Local) for Bachelor’s Degree valued at S$4,000 each for Singaporeans / S$3,200 each for Singapore Permanent Residents.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants:

  • Must apply for admission to MDIS before MDIS Merit Scholarship (Local) application can be reviewed.
  • Have demonstrated record of excellent academic performance.
  • Have outstanding co-curriculum activities or contributed to social / community work.
  • Company co-sponsorship is available.

Terms and Conditions

  • Successful MDIS Merit Scholarship (Local) applicants will not be entitled for any other grants, rebates or scholarships from MDIS.
  • This MDIS Merit Scholarship (Local) scheme is NOT APPLICABLE for MDIS Staff and Progression Students.
  • This MDIS Merit Scholarship (Local) scheme is ONLY APPLICABLE for NEW Applicants for MDIS Master's and Bachelor's Degree programmes.
  • Applicants are allowed to commence their classes while pending approval of their scholarship applications. Upon approval, the scholarship amount will be deducted from their last instalment payment.
  • MDIS Merit Scholarship (Local) recipients are not bonded by MDIS.
  • The MDIS Merit Scholarship (Local) award does not cover the following: application processing fees, non-tuition fees (i.e. membership entrance and annual subscription, MDIS experience seminars, medical insurance, and fee protection scheme); remodule fees; trip expenses (if applicable) and other miscellaneous fees or expenses.
  • The MDIS Merit Scholarship (Local) award does not carry a work bond.
  • All successful MDIS Merit Scholarship (Local) applicants must attend the annual MDIS Scholarship and Bursary Awards ceremony.
  • All MDIS Merit Scholarship (Local) applicants will be picked by the MDIS Selection Committee and the decision of the committee is final. No correspondences will be entertained.
  • Shortlisted MDIS Merit Scholarship (Local) applicants will be required to go through an interview before being awarded the MDIS Merit Scholarship (Local).

MDIS Academic Bursary

The MDIS Academic Bursary is an initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to deserving students with the opportunity to develop to their full potential. It offers bursaries to such students pursuing their studies with MDIS.

 

Senior Citizen Rebate Schemes

  • $3 million set aside for this scheme
  • Started in 2008
  • Applicable to those aged 50 and above
  • Rebate of S$1,000 for Diploma / Higher Diploma
  • Rebate of S$2,000 for 2-year Bachelor's Degree programme
  • Rebate of S$3,500 for 3-year Bachelor's / Master's Degree programme

 

MDIS Bursary

The MDIS Bursary award is open to Secondary School, ITE, Junior College and Polytechnic students.

  • The MDIS Bursary award for Secondary School and ITE students is worth S$400 each.
  • The MDIS Bursary award for Junior College and Polytechnic students is worth S$500 each.
  • Successful MDIS Bursary recipients are eligible to apply in alternate years i.e. every 2 years.
  • Applicant must be a Singaporean or Singapore Permanent Resident.
  • Applicant needs to have good academic results, good CCA records and total net household income must not exceed S$3,000 per month and S$650 PCI (excluding CPF), whichever is lower.
  • Applicant should have good conduct and must be supported by testimonials from the school, college or institute.

 

MDIS Scholarship (Pre-Degree)

MDIS Scholarships (Pre-Degree) are awarded through the self-help groups such as Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC), Eurasian Association (EA), Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) and Yayasan MENDAKI and other organisations like HomeTeamNS, Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), People’s Association (PA), Singapore Armed Forces Reservists Association (SAFRA) and Tamils Representative Council (TRC).

  • Application is open to staff and members of respective self-help group / association / institution / organisation.
  • The MDIS Scholarship (Pre-Degree) award is worth S$5,000 each.
  • Applicant must be a Singaporean or Singapore Permanent Resident who intends to pursue a full-time / part-time Certificate / Diploma programme at MDIS.
  • Applicant must have a good academic record, a good command of English and meet the MDIS entry requirements to a course of study leading to any of the Certificate / Diploma programme and such other course of study as may be approved by MDIS.
  • Existing MDIS students are not eligible to apply for the MDIS Scholarship (Pre-Degree).
  • The total net household income of the candidate must not exceed S$3,500 per month and S$850 PCI (excluding CPF), whichever is lower.
  • Applicant must not possess or currently pursuing an existing graduate / undergraduate qualification.
  • Each MDIS Scholarship (Pre-Degree) will provide for the following:
  1. Tuition fee (excluding non-tuition fee, supplementary exam fee and re-module fee)
  2. Waiver of application fee
  • Approved MDIS Scholarship (Pre-Degree) recipient will be offered the next available intake of the programme after the awards ceremony. Approved MDIS Scholarship (Pre-Degree) recipient must commence his / her programme before the awards ceremony of the following year, failing which the MDIS Scholarship (Pre-Degree) will be forfeited.
  • Each MDIS Scholarship (Pre-Degree) is tenable for the minimum period required by the recipient to complete his / her course of study.
  • The MDIS Scholarship (Pre-Degree) recipient shall not concurrently hold any other scholarships or other awards without the prior approval of MDIS.
  • No service of bond or contract is required for the MDIS Scholarship (Pre-Degree).

 

MDIS Scholarship (Degree)

MDIS Scholarships (Degree) are awarded through the self-help groups such as Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC), Eurasian Association (EA), Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) and Yayasan MENDAKI.

  • Application is open to staff and members of respective self-help group / association / institution / organisation.
  • Applicant must be a Singaporean or Singapore Permanent Resident who intends to pursue a full-time / part-time Bachelor’s Degree programme at MDIS.
  • Applicant must meet the entry requirements of the specific Bachelor’s Degree programme as stipulated by the awarding university.
  • Existing MDIS students are not eligible to apply for the MDIS Scholarship (Degree).
  • The total net household income of the candidate must not exceed S$3,500 per month and S$850 PCI (excluding CPF), whichever is lower.
  • Applicant must not possess or currently pursuing an existing graduate / undergraduate qualification.
  • Each MDIS Scholarship (Degree) will provide for the following:
  1. Tuition fee up to a maximum of S$25,000 (excluding non-tuition fee, supplementary exam fee and re-module fee)
  2. Waiver of application fee
  • Approved MDIS Scholarship (Degree) recipient will be offered the next available intake of the programme after the awards ceremony. Approved MDIS Scholarship (Degree) recipient must commence his / her programme before the awards ceremony of the following year, failing which the MDIS Scholarship (Degree) will be forfeited.
  • Each MDIS Scholarship (Degree) is tenable for the minimum period required by the recipient to complete his / her course of study.
  • The MDIS Scholarship (Degree) recipient shall not concurrently hold any other scholarships or other awards without the prior approval of MDIS.
  • No service of bond or contract is required for the MDIS Scholarship (Degree).

 

MDIS Study Grant

MDIS Study Grants are awarded through the unions and organisations such as The Singapore Manual & Mercantile Workers' Union (SMMWU), Singapore Teachers' Union (STU), NTUC, Singapore Insurance Employees' Union (SIEU) and Service and Food Workers Union (SFDWU).

  • Application is only open to staff and members of respective union / organisation.
  • Applicant must be a Singaporean or Singapore Permanent Resident who intends to pursue a full-time / part-time Bachelor’s Degree / Postgraduate programme at MDIS.
  • Applicant must meet the entry requirements of the specific Bachelor’s Degree / Postgraduate programme as stipulated by the awarding university.
  • Existing MDIS students are not eligible to apply for the MDIS Study Grant.
  • The total net household income of the candidate must not exceed S$3,000 per month and S$500 PCI (excluding CPF), whichever is lower.
  • Applicant must not possess or currently pursuing an existing graduate / undergraduate qualification.
  • Approved MDIS Study Grant recipient will receive a study grant of S$5,000 to be deducted from the last instalment of the MDIS Bachelor’s Degree / Postgraduate programme that he / she has been approved to undertake.
  • Approved MDIS Study Grant recipient is required to pay the MDIS membership entrance, subscription fee, non-tuition fee, supplementary exam fee and re-module fee (where applicable). Application fee will be waived.
  • Approved MDIS Study Grant recipient will be offered the next available intake of the programme after the awards ceremony. Approved MDIS Study Grant recipient must commence his / her programme before the awards ceremony of the following year, failing which the MDIS Study Grant will be forfeited.
  • Each MDIS Study Grant is tenable for the minimum period required by the recipient to complete his / her course of study.
  • No service of bond or contract is required for the MDIS Study Grant.
